Final Stats
Hammond, LA - Today's 7-0 shutout victory against SE Louisiana extended the Mavericks win streak to seven games and improved their Southland Conference record to 10-0. The shutout win was UTA's fifth against a conference opponent this season.
Tomorrow's match will be especially exciting for the Mavericks; if they beat the Colonels they will be named the SLC regular-season champions and finish with an unblemished league record.
"The girls were very eager to compete in a conference match again and they picked up right where they left off," said head coach Diego Benitez. "We are taking it one match at a time and we got to be ready for one more match tomorrow. It's going to be fun!"
Similar to their other nine conference matches, the nationally-ranked Mavericks easily recorded the doubles point and all six singles flights.
Top doubles team of Linda Aqvist and Daiana Negreanu defeated Audrey Chelini and Raissa Dias 8-3 while Maria Martinez and Nikola Matovicova handed Nina Schmied and Laura Verges a 8-6 setback in the No. 2 spot.
Giada D'ortona and Natalia Mayuk won an 8-0 decision over Isabel Brito and Morgane Dadot in the No. 3 position. Negreanu won the top singles flight over Chelini, 6-1, 3-6, and 10-8 while Aqvist defeated Verges 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 position.
In the No. 3 flight, Maria Martinez handed Dadot a 6-1, 6-0 loss while Mayuk won a6-2, 6-2 decision over Schmied in the No. 4 position.
Katarina Mlcochova took down Dias 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot while D'ortona recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Brito in the No. 6 flight.
Tomorrow will be the Mavericks final match of the regular-season as they face Nicholls State in Thibodaux, LA. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
