Nacogdoches, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 conference win against Stephen F. Austin Sunday afternoon in Nacogdoches, Texas at the Schlief Tennis Complex. UTA remained perfect in conference action with a 7-0 league record and improved to 12-4 on the year. The Mavericks also won their fourth straight.
UTA finished the week with a perfect 2-0 record, picking up wins against Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin.
The Mavericks opened with doubles action where they recorded wins in the No. 2 and 3 flights and picking up the point. Daiana Negreanu and Linda Aqvist dropped a 6-5 (7-0) decision in the top flight against Alina Shazhko and Alice Pacaut.
In the No. 2 position, doubles team of Maria Martinez-Romero and Nikola Matovicova kept their perfect conference record by winning an 8-5 decision over Paola Montuenga and Andreea Enica.
Giada D'ortona and Natalia Mayuk picked up an 8-0 win in the No. 3 against Ksenia Berestetska and Meaghan Ocanas.
The Mavs moved to singles play with a 1-0 advantage and recorded wins in the No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 flights.
Negreanu was the lone Maverick to suffer a loss, falling 2-6, 6-1 and 10-3 in the top flight against Shazhko.
In the No. 2 flight, Aqvist defeated Montuenga, 6-2, 6-0 while Martinez-Romero handed Berestetska a 6-1, 3-6 and 10-7 setback in the No. 3 position.
Mayuk picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 4 flight against Pacaut while Katarina Mlcochova handed Enica a loss in the No. 5 position.
D'ortona recorded a 6-0, 6-0 straight set victory against Ocanas in the No. 6 flight.
The Mavericks will take a break from conference action with a non-conference match up against North Texas on Thursday, April 7. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
