Final Stats

Arlington, Texas - The No. 58 women's tennis team took a break from league action for a non-conference match-up against North Texas Thursday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center. The nationally-ranked Mavericks extended their win streak to five after winning a 4-3 decision against the Mean Green.

The victory improved the Mavericks to 14-4 overall and 6-4 in non-conference action.

"We played very good in doubles, it was huge for us to get the point and open singles with a 1-0 lead," said head coach Diego Benitez. "We knew they were going to be tough in singles and we were ready to take three more points. It was a great overall effort and a great performance for Natalia to clinch the final match."

After winning four straight conference matches, UTA quickly found themselves with a 1-0 advantage against UNT after recording all three doubles flights.

Doubles team of Nikola Matovicova and Maria Martinez were the first to win their match, earning an 8-2 victory against Nadia Lee and Amy Joubert in the No. 2 position.

No. 3 team of Giada D'ortona and Natalia Mayuk handed Madura Ranganathan and Paula Dinuta, an 8-5 setback.

Daiana Negreanu and Linda Aqvist were the last duo to finish, recording an 8-6 win against Irina Parschiv and Barbora Vykydalova in the top flight.

The Mavericks confidence followed them in singles action where they won three of the six singles flights.

In the top position, Negreanu won a 6-3, 6-4 decision against Vykydalova while Martinez-Romero handed Dinuta a 6-2, 6-3 loss in the No. 3 flight.

Mayuk picked up a 6-3, 6-7, and 6-2 victory over Lee in the No. 4 position. Mayuk's match was especially important as it was the clinching match for the win.

Aqvist suffered a 6-3, 6-1 setback in the No. 2 position against Parschiv while D'ortona also dropped the No. 5 flight, 6-1, 6-0 against Ranganathan.

Matovicova dropped the No. 6 flight against Joubert, 6-3, 6-3.

UT Arlington gets back into Southland play on Sunday, April 10 with a meeting against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Match time is set for 10 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
