Men's tennis defeats UC Santa Barbara 4-1

Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's tennis team started the day winning a 4-1 decision at home against UC Santa Barbara but later in the day dropped a 7-0 decision against No. 13 Baylor.

"We had a great match today against UC Santa Barbara despite dealing with the tough windy conditions," said head coach Diego Benitez. "Winning the doubles point gave us the boost to come strong in singles. I'm happy with the level of tennis we are playing right now."

The Mavericks won two of the three doubles flights, earning them the point. Top doubles team of Mindaugas Celedinas and David Subirats suffered an 8-7 loss to Alex Konigsfeldt and Taylor Chavez-Goggin.

Brieuc Hamon and Lucas Leppen won an 8-2 decision against Mathieu Forget and Philip Therp in the No. 2 position. Nicolas Moreno and Yauheni Yakauleu recorded a 9-8 victory against Benjamin Recknagel and Evan Jurgensen in the No. 3 flight.

UTA moved to singles action with a 1-0 advantage and quickly picked up three points for the win. The No. 1, 3, and 4 flights were won in straight sets and Leppin and Moreno's matches went unfinished.

Celedinas handed Recknagel a 7-5, 6-2 loss in the top flight while Yakauleu recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win against Forget a loss in the No. 3 flight.

Subirats picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 4 position over Chavez-Goggin.

No. 13 Baylor 7, UT Arlington 0
Following the win against UC Santa Barbara, the Mavericks traveled to Waco, Texas for a match up against No. 13 Baylor. UTA suffered a 7-0 loss to the Bears at the Baylor Tennis Center.

In doubles Roberto Maytin and Sergio Ramirez defeated Mindaugas Celedinas and David Subirats with a final score of 8-1 while Brieuc Hamon and Lucas Leppen dropped an 8-2 decision against Kike Grangeiro and Robert Verzaal in the No. 2 flight.

In the No. 3 position, Julian Bley and Dennis Lengsfeld handed Nicolas Moreno and Yauheni Yakauleu an 8-5 loss.

Celedinas suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to No. 18 John Peers while Jordan Rux defeated Yakauleu 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot.

No. 83 Roberto Maytin won a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) decision against Subirats while No. 81 Dennis Lengsfeld defeated Erik Hjertonsson a 6-0, 6-4 setback in the No. 4 flight.

Moreno dropped a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Julian Bley in the No. 5 flight while Lateko lost the No. 6 flight against Robert Verzaal with a score of 6-0, 6-3.

The Mavericks get back into Southland Conference action on Friday, April 15 when they travel to Thibodaux, LA to face Nicholls State. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
