OMAHA, Neb. - UT Arlington suffered its fifth loss of the season Friday night after falling 73-39 to Nebraska-Omaha on the road.
Laila Suleiman led the Mavericks (1-5) in points with eight, while Briana Walker led the team in rebounds with seven. Walker was also second in scoring with seven points.
Nebraska-Omaha (5-1) grabbed the first two baskets of the game, but Kelsey Willson and Laila Suleiman put the Mavericks on the board and gave UTA a 5-4 lead. That turned out to be the last UTA Mavs lead of the game.
The Mavericks headed into the locker room down 38-14 at the half. UNO went on a 21-2 run during the first half with the lone two points coming from junior forward Briana Walker. UTA broke into double digits when Suleiman hit a 3-pointer with 1:05 left in the half. UTA shot a season first half low of 18.2 percent, while UNO shot 48.3 percent from the floor.
UT Arlington picked up the pace in the second half, but still fell short. Micah Cisneroz saw her first minutes as a Maverick scoring two points late in the second half.
"Micah brought a lot of energy to the game," head coach Samantha Morrow said. "Her and (Jordan Holub) both brought a good energy, and we just need to turn around and play well against Fresno State."
The Mavericks continued to struggle from the field shooting 23 percent from the field in the game. UTA came within 20, but UNO quickly pulled away to a 30-point lead and didn't let up.
Twenty-seven of UNO's 73 points came from beyond the arc with Ericka House and Carolyn Blair-Mobley each with three 3-pointers. Blair-Mobley led Nebraska-Omaha with 19 points and nine rebounds.
The Mavericks are 1-3 on the road, with the lone win coming at Houston Baptist earlier this week . UT Arlington will travel to California to take on the Bulldogs of Fresno State on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. CT.
