ARLINGTON, Texas - The women's tennis team suffered a tough loss Wednesday afternoon against the Wichita State Shockers 4-3.
UTA's No. 1 doubles spot completed play to start off the day with an 8-1 win over the Shockers, but the No. 2 and No. 3 spots fell short.
Verena Scott, Natalia Mayuk and Giada D'ortona all won their singles match, playing at the No. 2, No. 3 No. 4 spots, respectively.
Senior Maria Martinez-Romero fell in singles at the No. 1 spot, but fought to the end of a long match.
"It was a match that could have gone either way," UT Arlington head coach Diego Benitez said. " When the score is 3-3 and you have your No. 1 player out there battling the deciding point, it doesn't get much better than that.
Wichita State played tough today."
The women are back in action Saturday in San Marcos as they take on Texas State at 11 a.m.
