The Mavericks improved their conference record with two wins this weekend.
The women started their weekend with a win over McNeese State 6-1. Maria Martinez-Romero and Nikola Matovicova won at the No. 1 doubles position with an 8-0 victory over McNeese' No. 1 doubles team.
The women went on to win all but one in singles competition. Martinez held her opponent to only three points between the two matches at the No. 1 singles position.
UTA also faced the Lamar Cardinals this weekend grabbing their fourth conference win of the season.
The Mavericks won all three doubles matches to start the day with a 1-0 lead over the Cardinals. Freshman Verena Scott played at the No. 2 position and defeated MeNeese' Natalia Mayagoitia 6-2, 6-0.
"Our conference is getting better each day and every team is tough," UT Arlington head coach Diego Benitez said. "I'm very happy with our performance this weekend, we played awesome doubles against Lamar and at the start of singles, it looked like was going to be a battle.
"Our girls step up and took care of business, we played awesome tennis this weekend and we need to carry the momentum on next weekend when competing in Boise," Benitez said.
The men fell to No. 10 Texas A&M Friday 7-0. Senior Mindaugas played at the No. 1 spot in singles play and pushed his match to three games, (4-6, 6-4, 10-2) but was unable to hang on in the end.
"It was a tough match, our schedule is one of the strongest in the nation and A&M will be a national champion contender," Benitez said. "I was happy with the way we competed in some of the lineup, especially Mindaugas Celedinas almost beating #25 in the Nation Kleagau, his game is developing in the right direction and he is hungry for a rank win."
