NEW YORK, N.Y. - UT Arlington men's doubles team Daniel Armengol and Javier Perez won a doubles title at the Columbia Classic held at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
The pair would defeat a team from Marist 8-2 and NJIT 8-3 before completing the run by beating a doubles team from Columbia 8-5 in the final.
"It was a great tournament for all of our guys," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We played really well across the board. We had guys reach the semifinals and I am very proud of Armengol and Perez in capturing the doubles title."
The duo also found success competing in singles.
Armengol reached the semifinals of the B Draw, defeating Dennis Zlobinsky of Fairfield in the opening round 6-2, 6-3 and reached the next round as his opponent did not compete due to injury.
Perez battled through the C Draw by defeating Juklian Philippe of FDU after his opponent retired after being down 3-0. Perez defeated Trymm Negelstadt of Marist 4-6, 6-5(5), 6-0.
Carlos Arbiza picked up a win in his opening round match of the A Draw, winning 6-5(3), 3-6, 6-4 over Viktor Pugliesi of Monmouth.
Marek Pesicka reached the final of the Singles A Consoluation Bracket with a 6-3, 6-2 win and then a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 win to reach the final. Pasicka fell 6-2, 6-5 (5) to Marcus Schultz of NJIT.
UTA is back in action on Oct. 19 when the Mavs travel to College Station.
