GRAND PRARIE, Texas -- UT Arlington defeated Arlington Baptist 6-1 Thursday night at QuikTrip Park in the first-ever meeting between the two Arlington programs.

The Mavericks (17-15) pushed a pair of runs across the plate in the second, fourth and sixth innings. UTA moved to 2-0 all-time at QuikTrip Park, the site of the Western Athletic Conference tournament in May. The Mavs return to WAC play on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. against San Jose State for the start of the three-game series at Clay Gould Ballpark.

"We got a chance to get another game in after getting rained out," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "We didn't swing the bat very well tonight, but tomorrow is a new day."

Greg McCall led UTA with two RBI and three hits, his second three-hit game and sixth time with multiple RBI this season.

"It's good to see him continue to string together some hits," Thomas said. "He hit the ball very well tonight."

Mavericks starting pitcher Andy Scott (2-0) threw five innings, giving up one earned run and striking out two with just one walk. Keegan Hucul pitched three innings of relief, striking out six.

UTA loaded the bases to begin the game on the way to scoring two in the first. Justin Copeland hit a long fly ball to left field to score Jake Pinchback from third. Darien McLemore added UTA's second run with a fielder's choice back to the pitcher, scoring Ryan Walker.

Arlington Baptist picked up a run in the bottom half of the second after a one-out single from Carson Conarty. Clint Hall drove him in on a double down the left field line.

Brandon Lawrence began a one-out rally for the Mavs in the fifth. Lawrence doubled to the wall in left-center and scored on a McCall triple to the same location. McCall would come home on a sac fly.

McCall notched his second RBI of the game on a single to right field in the sixth and a sac fly from Travis Sibley scored McLemore.

San Jose State is 11-22 overall and 5-4 in the WAC. UTA is tied for first in the WAC at 6-3.
