Final Stats

WICHITA, Kansas - UT Arlington women's tennis were shut out 4-0 Monday afternoon as the Mavericks took on No. 62 Wichita State in Kansas at Wichita Country Club.

"We couldn't conquer our objectives the weekend," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We're very proud that we continued to fight, looking for an opportunity to break through. As we continue to push through matches like this we will get tougher and stronger, minimizing our weaknesses."

The doubles competition was short lived as the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles went down in a quick 8-3 battle against their WSU opponents.

The Shockers continued their momentum into singles play, as UTA senior Giada D'ortona lost 6-2, 6-0 to give WSU a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Angles de los Rios was the next Maverick to lose the point as she fell 6-2, 7-5. Sophomore Elizabeth Thoms battled before falling 6-3, 7-5, allowing the Shockers to get the sweep.

UT Arlington is back on the court Feb. 27 as the host in-state rival UTSA at 1 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
