ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington pushed its home win streak to five matches at College Park Center with an exciting 3-1 victory over Georgia Southern Thursday night.
The Mavericks improved to 12-5 overall and 3-2 in Sun Belt play while Georgia Southern has yet to find a win through four conference matches. The Eagles are now 6-10 on the year and 0-4 against the Mavs all time.
UTA powered a late 7-3 run to claim the first set 25-22, but Georgia Southern responded with offensive momentum to take the second 25-15. The Mavs answered by out-hitting the Eagles .321 to -.061 to win the third set 25-13. After trailing by five, UT Arlington stormed back to score seven of the last nine points and grab the final set 25-23. UTA out-hit, out-dug and out-blocked Georgia Southern in the four-set win.
Player of the Match
Redshirt freshman Zhanelle Geathers was an offensive powerhouse for UTA as she scored 14 of the team's points, including a career-high six blocks, eight kills, three service aces and four digs with a .438 hitting percentage. The middle blocker recorded just one error.
Stat Leaders
Senior opposite hitter Stacey Koch contributed a match-high 15 kills and 17.5 points. Junior Cassidy Wheeler notched 45 assists with four service aces and senior Caitlyn Cooney tallied 14 digs.
