ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis returns to the court on Saturday at the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Houston.
The Mavericks see action for the first time since the Midland Fall Invitational in September, but the team hasn't been relaxing during the break.
"They are eager to get out," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "They haven't played in awhile but they have had some good weeks in practice. We really have narrowed down a lot of different details and have improved in a few aspects we needed to improve. They are ready to go and it is going to be a fun tournament down in Houston. Hopefully we can do some damage down there."
Benitez has using the time to improve the conditioning of the players, despite the lack of matches.
"The practice has been about getting the timing and getting back into shape," Benitez said. "We are trying to get really fast and big and really pumped and motivated to the upcoming matches."
For senior Carlos Arbiza, the preparation for the regional tournament has him, and the team around him, in a good frame of mind heading into the biggest tournament of the fall.
"The team is doing really good," Arbiza said. "We had a great season last time. Everybody is improving as much as we can and we are excited about what is coming."
