WBB: Late lead slips away in OT loss

Box Score Feb. 12, 2015

Final Stats

SAN MARCOS, Texas - UT Arlington couldn't hold a nine-point lead late in the second half and lost 65-58 in overtime to rival Texas State on Thursday night at Strahan Coliseum.

The Lady Mavericks had their two-game winning streak snapped in falling to 12-10 overall and 6-7 in the Sun Belt Conference. UTA lost both games to the Bobcats (13-10, 9-5) this season.

Senior guard Chaun Williams tied her career high with 19 points in her 100th career games. Freshman center Rebekah Van Dijk posted her third consecutive double-double and 12th overall with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

The Lady Mavericks were up 52-43 with two minutes left in regulation before Texas State mounted a game-saving rally. The Bobcats banked in a 3-pointer to send the game into OT and pulled away in the extra session.

"We just didn't finish the ballgame," UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. "We had a lead and we didn't make free throws or handle the basketball. We have to be mentally tougher than that."

The Lady Mavericks return to action Saturday at South Alabama. Tip is set for 2:05 p.m.
