WT: Mavs take down rival UTSA

SAN ANTONIO - The UT Arlington women's tennis team went down to San Antonio to take on UTSA Monday afternoon and came back with a 4-3 victory.

A rivalry that has been in the making for over a decade went in the favor of the Mavericks despite losing the doubles point early. Christine Foote and Augustina Serio were the only the pair to win their match, defeating Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Lina Hallgren 8-2.

After falling short in doubles play, the Mavericks fought back in dual play led by junior Elizabeth Thoms. Thoms defeated Miriam Rosell Canudas 6-4, 6-2 bringing her overall record to an impressive 8-1.

Angeles de los Rios followed up Thoms in the No. 2 slot defeating UTSA's Jacobea Junger 6-2, 6-3 in a quick match. Serio served up another victory without dropping a set (6-4, 6-0). Serio holds the best record for the Mavs at 10-1 overall.

The Mavericks are back in action March 20 against Sun Belt opponent Louisiana-Monroe starting at 2 p.m. in Monroe, Louisana.
