WT: Mavs are undefeated in Sun Belt play

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UTA women's tennis team improved to 3-0 in the Sun Belt after defeating Arkansas State 4-0 at the UTA Tennis Center on Friday.

The Mavericks got to a quick 1-0 start after claiming the doubles point with the help of Jessica Birowski and Astrid Gehre. The pairing lost only one game in the win against ASU's Julie Gauguery and Sofia Krsmanovic (8-1).

Gehre kept the momentum going in dual play when she defeated Victoria Pisani 6-0, 6-0, to put the Mavs up 2-0. Freshman Augstina Serio, who currently holds the best record for UTA at 12-2, helped the Mavs clinch the match with her victory over Sabrina Jeresic 6-0, 6-1.

"I am proud of the way our girls took care of business," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "This weekend will be great for us to see where we stack up in the Sun Belt. We will continue to compete and keep our confidence high."

The Mavericks are back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. to take on ULM at the UTA Tennis Center.
