ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UTA women's tennis team improved to 4-0 in Sun Belt play Sunday afternoon after defeating Louisiana-Monroe 4-1 at the UTA Tennis Center.
Doubles team Astrid Gehre and Jessica Birowski got the first win of the day beating out Petra Horakova and Sophie Rufyikiri 8-1. Fellow Mavs Augustina Serio and Christine Foote followed up the victory with a win of their own defeating Amy Olivier and Letha Gaigher 8-3.
"We have been playing strong doubles the last few matches," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "We are taking one match at a time preparing for New Orleans and the conference championship."
Although Elizabeth Thoms and Angeles de los Rios were unable to finish their doubles match, the pair were able to pull out dual victories against ULM. Thoms defeated Amy Olivier in the No. 1 slot 6-0, 6-3 to bring her overall record to 12-2. Teammate de los Rios was able to get her 11th win of the season defeating C. Herb 6-2, 6-0.
"I am very proud of the confidence our girls are playing at," Benitez said. "They have been working hard all season and they are seeing the benefits of their dedication."
The Mavericks are back in action April 8 to take on TCU in Fort Worth at 5:30 p.m.
The men's team was set to play their last match of the season in Louisiana on Sunday, but were unable to finish due to weather.
