FORT WORTH, Texas -- The UTA women's tennis team came up short 4-0 at No. 19 TCU on Wednesday night.
"We played a very good team today and came up on the losing side," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "Despite the outcome I am proud with the way our girls fought and competed. We played strong in doubles and competed at a high level in dual play but just couldn't put enough games together."
The nationally-ranked doubles pairing of Elizabeth Thoms and Angeles de los Rios went up against TCU's Stephanie Tan and Parajova Simona in an unfinished battle at the No. 1 slot. The games went back and forth and were called at 5-5 after the two other Maverick teams lost their fight.
The Mavericks went into dual play geared up for a tough battle but lost three straight matches. Ekaterina Tugarinova was defeated but Alexis Pereira 6-0, 6-0. shortly after de los Rios lost her match 6-3, 6-1 to Sofiko Kadzhaya.
TCU is currently 14-7 overall and 4-2 in the Big 12.
The Mavericks who are now 13-5 will face North Texas on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center in their last match of the regular season. UTA will head to New Orleans for the Sun Belt Conference Championship on April 16.
