ARLINGTON, Texas -
UT Arlington softball coach Kristie Fox continues her duties with USA softball by joining the junior national team as an assistant coach ahead of the WBSC Junior Women's World Championship in Oklahoma City.

"Representing your country is just something you can't compare to something else and I am excited to start giving back," Fox said. "I have been watching what they have been doing so far this summer but haven't been able to travel with them. They are a really strong team and worked really hard in training so far and I am exciting to get with the team. I think that we have a great opportunity to go and win gold."

Fox joins Team USA to begin its final training camp of the summer as the team is set to play in the JWWC on Aug. 9. Planning to spend the summer with the team prior, Fox celebrated the birth of her son Andrew in June.

The Fox family has ties to the national team dating back to her play with Team USA in 2006. Fox won gold as a member of the USA Elite team in the College World Games in Taiwan. Her sister Kellie is a two-time All-American at Arizona and is competing with the national team currently. Kellie rounded out play in the World Cup of Softball X with gold and earned silver at the Pan American Games.

"It has been really fun to watch," Kristie Fox said. "I had a great experience with USA Softball and learned a lot about winning and losing, completing goals and failing. I feel like I have learned so much, and my sister has learned so much."

The experience gives Fox the chance to grow as a coach by working with a group of young and talented players.

"The international game is a little different," Fox said. "So learning those rules and growing as a coach is the goal. Learning from the other staff members we have and these are the elite players that are about to come up in our game, so seeing what kind of coach they are best going to thrive under is really good for me moving forward for my players here."

In three years with Fox, UT Arlington has seen a resurgence and completed a record-breaking season on offense. UTA posted single-season team records in runs scored, RBI, batting average, walks and hits in 2015.

Team USA begins play in the JWWC at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex on Aug. 9. USA is competing in Group B with Brazil, Columbia, Italy and Mexico. First game is scheduled for 8 p.m. against Brazil.
