Postgame Notes

  • UTA improved to 2-2 all-time in Sun Belt openers (all under coach Krista Gerlich) after defeating Appalachian State on Thursday night. The win improved the Lady Mavs to 5-0 in the series against the Mountaineers
  • The 22 Appalachian State turnovers pushed UTA's streak to seven games of forcing 20 or more turnovers from its opponent. UTA entered the contest 10th in the nation in turnovers forced at more than 22 per game. UTA used the advantage to outscore the Mountaineers 24-7 in points off turnovers.
  • Junior center Rebekah VanDijk scored a game-high 20 points. The outburst puts the junior at 942 for her career as she approaches becoming the 18th player in UTA history to reach 1,000. VanDijk averaged 12.8 ppg coming in against the Mountaineers in four games played.
  • UTA reversed a trend of poor first quarters by outscoring ASU 24-14 in the opening period. UTA had a deficit of 28-5 against Texas Tech in its final nonconference contest on Dec. 22
  • Junior guard Shelby Richards made her third consecutive start and was one of three Lady Mavs to score in double digits with 11 points (4-6). She had a game-high three 3-pointers.
  • UTA held App State scoreless for the final 1:47 of the contest.
