ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis remains perfect at home this season after sweeping Incarnate Word and Oral Roberts this past weekend at the UTA Tennis Center.

UTA improved to 9-5 overall with the 4-0 win over the Cardinals on Friday, before defeating the Golden Eagles 7-0 Sunday. The Mavericks have won three in a row and uphold a 7-0 record in Arlington.

"Solid two wins at home against two programs that are on the rise," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "Incarnate Word and Oral Roberts are two programs that are getting better every year.

"The guys played really well. It was really good to sweep both matches. It's going to continue to build confidence and momentum for the conference matches coming up later this year."

The Mavs are back in action at the UTA Tennis Center on Sunday against No. 71 Wichita State at 11 a.m. The match precedes the Sacramento State Tournament in California next week.

Match 1: UT Arlington 4, Incarnate Word 0

6-4 and 6-0 wins from No. 1 Carlos Arbiza and Pablo Colvee, and No. 3 Jhonathan Gonzalez and Daniel Armengol secured the doubles point for UTA, respectively. Mario Muniesa and Guanarteme Nuez led 5-4 before their match was stopped.

Gonzalez, Nuez and Colvee each picked up two-set singles victories to round out the day as Muniesa, Arbiza and Armengol's matches were left unfinished.

Match 2: UT Arlington 7, Oral Roberts 0

The Mavericks' second sweep of the weekend marked the fifth of nine games on the season. UTA transferred its rhythm into Sunday's match against a tenacious Oral Roberts.

Armengol and Gonzalez, and Muniesa and Nuez netted the two wins the Mavs needed to snag the doubles point as the Golden Eagles defeated Arbiza and Colvee in the No. 1 position.

In an effort to battle back, Oral Roberts extended three singles matches to three sets. Gonzalez took his opening set 6-3, the Golden Eagles responded 6-3, but the junior ultimately won out in the final set 10-7.

Armengol and Colvee also locked down their first sets before handing over the second. Armengol completed his win in the third 6-3, and Colvee 7-6.

Armengol jumped to 9-0 on the season in singles, with a 9-1 record in doubles while playing next to Gonzalez. Gonzalez had an uplifting weekend as he earned back-to-back singles wins for the first time this season. The junior is also riding a five-match doubles streak.
