Postgame Notes

  • UTA dropped to 12-5 on the season and 2-2 in the Sun Belt. The Mavericks return to action Monday, January 16 at 2 p.m. (CST) in a Sun Belt Conference contest at South Alabama. The game will be televised by ESPN2 with Mark Neely and Kyle Macy calling the action.
  • Troy improved to 10-8 on the season and 2-2 in the Sun Belt. The Trojans remain at home on Monday, Jan. 16 in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against Texas State.
  • Troy's starting lineup consisted of forwards Jordon Varnado and DeVon Walker and guards Kevin Baker, Wesley Person and Juan Davis, Jr.
  • Link Kabadyundi, was UTA's first substitute off the bench at the 16:20 mark of the first half.
  • Junior forward Kevin Hervey was a late scratch from the game, a game time decision due to a sore knee. Junior forward Julian Harris did not make the trip due to illness.
  • Junior guard Kaelon Wilson earned his first start of the season. He started 12 of the final 13 games of last season.
  • After not trailing at halftime through the first 15 games, UTA fell behind at the half for the second straight game. The Mavericks were behind 40-39 at Texas State last weekend and 46-36 today at Troy.
  • For the second straight game, UTA's opponent shot better than 60 percent in the first half. At Texas State, the Bobcats made 63 percent of their shots and 50 percent from behind the 3-pointa arc. Today, Troy made 64 percent of its attempts overall and 58.8 percent from 3-point range.
  • In addition to Texas State and Troy, only Mount St. Mary's shot better than 50 percent from the field in the first half against the Mavericks.
  • Junior guard Erick Neal set a season-high in scoring with 22 points. His previous season best was 15 points at Arkansas and at home against UT Dallas. His career high is 27 points last season at ULM.
  • Freshman Erkam Kiris equaled his career/season high with 4 points. He previously scored his only four points of the season against UT Dallas on Dec. 5.
  • Troy junior Wesley Person scored 39 points, the most for a UTA opponent this season. The previous high was a 35-point effort by Texas Southern's Zach Lofton in the season opener at College Park Center.
  • Troy's 22-point margin of victory was the most for the Trojans in the short 7-game series between the two teams.
  • Troy's 93 points is the most given up by UTA this season since a 99-88 loss at ULM last season.
  • Troy made 54.8 percent of its attempts from behind the 3-point arc, the highest percentage for a UTA opponent this season. The Trojans' 16 made 3-pointers is also the highest number for a Mavericks opponent this year.
  • Troy also set opponent highs this season against UTA for the following: Most points (93), most field goals made (33), highest field goal percentage (.589), most 3-point field goals made (17), most assists (22) and most fouls (27).
  • Troy's Wesley Person also set individual opponent highs this season against UTA for the following: Points (25), field goals made (13), 3-point field goals made (10) and 3-point field goal attempts (15).
  • UTA went 23 of 33 from the free throw line at Troy - both season highs for the Mavericks.
