Postgame Notes

  • UTA improved to 13-5 on the season and 3-2 in the Sun Belt. The Mavericks return to College Park Center Saturday, January 21 for a 4:30 p.m. (CST) Sun Belt Conference contest against ULM.
  • South Alabama dropped to 9-9 on the season and 2-3 in the Sun Belt. The Jaguars travel to Little Rock Saturday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
  • South Alabama's starting lineup consisted of forwards Josh Ajayi, Don MuepoKelly and Nick Stover and guards Shaq Calhoun and Dederick Lee.
  • Prior to today, neither team had lost to the other on its home court since UTA joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2014.
  • Junior forward Kevin Hervey did not start at South Alabama, a game time decision due to a slight inflammation in his knee. He did not play at Troy on Saturday. Junior forward Julian Harris did not make the trip due to illness.
  • Junior guard Kaelon Wilson earned his second straight start. He started 12 of the final 13 games of last season.
  • Senior forward Jorge Bilbao finished the game with a career-high tying 13 rebounds, giving him 522 for his career. He moved into 18th on the school's career rebounding listings, passing Derrick Obasohan (515, 2000-04) and John Shelton (520, 1965-69).
  • Junior guard Erick Neal registered 1 steal in the game, giving him 121 in his career. He has moved into 9th on the school's career list for steals. Jeffrey Stewart is 8th (127, 1978-82).
  • Jorge Bilbao registered his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the home win over Coastal Carolina. His 13 rebounds equals his career-high, while his scoring total fell just one point shy.
