Postgame Notes

  • UTA improved to 12-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Sun Belt. The Mavericks return to action Saturday, January 7 at 4:30 p.m. (CST) in a Sun Belt Conference contest at Texas State.
  • Appalachian State dropped to 5-8 on the season and 0-2 in the Sun Belt. The Montaineers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 7 at home against Little Rock.
  • Appalachian State's starting lineup consisted of guards Kelvin Robinson, Ronshad Shabazz and Emarius Logan and forwards Griffin Kinney and Tyrell Johnson.
  • Jorge Bilbao's streak of 25-straight free throws came to an end when he missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 3:38 left in the 1st period. Her recovered by making two shots just a minute later.
  • Kevin Hervey registered 21 points and 12 rebounds against Applachian State. The double-double marked his sixth of the season and 14th of his career.
  • The victory gave UTA its 11th straight win this season, dating back to a Nov. 18 loss at the University of Arkansas.
  • The win also provided UTA its ninth straight home victory in College Park Center, dating back to last season's 64-61 loss on Feb. 20, 2016 against ULM.
  • UTA owned a 37-33 halftime lead against Appalachian State, marking the 14th time in 15 games the Mavericks have led at the half. The only other time was a 35-35 tie after the first 20 minutes against Coastal Carolina.
  • After connecting on the most 3-point field goals this season with 15 on Saturday against Coastal Carolina, UTA registered its lowest total of the season with just 3 tonight against Appalachian State. The Mavericks' 15 attempts against App also equaled a season low.
  • Kevin Hervey tied his season high with 21 points. He scored also 21 in the team's win at North Texas.
