SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Texas State extended its winning streak to seven games after posting a three-set win over UTA volleyball (18-25, 21-25, 17-25) on Friday night, wrapping up a season-long five-match road swing for the Mavericks, on Friday night at Strahan Coliseum.
UTA (8-12, 2-5 Sun Belt Conference) fell in three sets to the blistering hot Bobcats, as Texas State finished hitting .272 as a team, while holding the Mavs to a .168 attack percentage. Texas State (15-7, 6-1 Sun Belt) also had a 46-28 advantage in assists and a 57-41 mark in digs.
The match wraps up UTA's five-match road swing, which has seen the Mavs travel nearly 4,000 miles to open their conference road slate.
LEADING THE MAVS
UTA two-time all-conference selection Qiana Canete led the way for the Mavs with seven kills, adding three digs. A senior out of Copperas Cove, Texas, Canete has 1,349 kills in her career - the second-most in the modern-rule history of UTA volleyball (2001-present). She also has 1,489 career digs, ranking fourth in UTA modern history.
Sophomore Kylie Jedlicka had a team-high nine kills and hit .280, adding eight digs. Zhanelle Geathers added six kills, with sophomore Madison McConnell charting three kills and four block assists. Setters Madison Helt and Haley Higgins each had 12 assists, with libero Libbie Vickers leading the team with 18 digs. Freshman Tessa Harfield had two kills, with senior Ashlynn Ford owning four digs.

UTA opens a two-match home weekend on Friday vs. Georgia State at 6:30 p.m. CT at College Park Center, presented by Liv+ Apartments. On Saturday, the Mavs host Georgia Southern at 6:30 p.m. in their annual Dig Pink Match, presented by eSix Sportswear.
SET ONE
The Mavs and Bobcats traded 2-0 runs to open the scoring, with Harfield giving UTA its second lead with her first kill at 3-2. Jedlicka and Geathers notched back-to-back kills for a 6-4 lead and UTA saw the match tied at seven, eight and nine, with Canete's kill evening the set up at 11-11. Trailing 17-14, Geathers led a 2-0 run to cut it to one and a second 2-0 run over a five-point stretch evened the set at 18-18. Texas State answered with a 6-0 run and finished off the win for a 25-19 result.
SET TWO
UTA again opened the set with the first two points and after kills from Canete and Higgins, owned a 4-1 lead. The Bobcats then went on a 4-0 run, stretch their lead to 10-6 with nine of the next 11 points. UTA cut its hole to two with a 2-0 run to get to 8-10 and 10-12 but a 3-0 run stretched the Texas State lead to 15-10. The Mavs used an ace from Ford to cut the hole to 20-22 but TXST rallied to finish off the win at 25-21.
SET THREE
The teams traded points early, with the set tied at one, two, three, four and five to open up the game. Geathers cut the lead to 7-6 with a kill and McConnell and Higgins each notched kills to keep the deficit to one. Texas State rallied to take a seven-point lead with an ace at 19-12 and the Bobcats were able to fight off kills from Geathers and Canete late for a 25-17 win.
