Postgame Quotes

UTA Head Coach Krista Gerlich

Opening statement ...
"I'm really proud of the way we shot the ball tonight. We came out from the tip ready to play. We had confidence. We had gotten those first game jitters out of the way on Saturday. There was a lot more flow to our game. It was really good. I thought we defended exceptionally well. We followed our game plan really, really well. I thought Coach (Talby) Justus did a great job on (the) scout. I thought our kids really executed the game plan, didn't give them a lot of second chance opportunities or even the looks they are used to getting. Crystal (Allen) had a big game offensively. Aysia (Evans) came in and knocked down some shots. To me, that's contagious. When someone is knocking 'em down, everybody is feeling it. We were able to show our depth tonight, how balanced we can be. I am proud of the (way we responsded) after the short turnaround we had. The attention to detail, the scout and now we have to do it again. We have to flip back around and play at UTSA on Wednesday."

On Oral Roberts ...
"I think Oral Roberts is a very good team. They have a great tradition. Misty (Cussen) does a really good job. I just think our girls did a nice job of jumping on them early. Because we did that, we were able to take them out of it and get them a little bit frustrated. I thought our quickness really bothered them. We were able to push it at them. Oral Roberts is very good team. I am really glad we have them on our schedule. It is a home-and-home series, we play them again next year. They are very respectable and they are going to do very well in their conference."

Student-Athlete Quotes

#3, G, Sr. Crystal Allen

On the win …
"We did a great job on defense. We followed the gameplan the way the coaches wanted us to do, as always. We have a lot more work to do. That is just a start. This is our second home game and we have plenty of home and away games to go. It starts in practice. We have to get better in practice and in shootarounds everyday. The harder we work that is going to show in games. If we are sloppy in practice and shootarounds then we are going to be sloppy in the games. If we work hard, keep it up we are going to get more wins as the season continues."

On her comfort level in 2017 compared to last year …
"My first couple of games were scrappy last year because out had sat out a whole year. Sitting out a whole year - a lot of people think it can be easy to just sit out a year and then comeback - but for me I was rusty but I got into a groove. Now, I'm not necessarily comfortable, because I'm never going to be comfortable with the way I play - I'm always looking forward to getting better. Right now I just need to focus on getting back in the gym, shooting some more and improving my game."

On the mentality of hitting shots early to spark the offense …
"It makes me feel good. I imagine it will make anyone feel good. The more shots you make the more confidence you have and the more you build yourself up. I feel like that is what I'm supposed to do, as my role on my team, and I'm going to do what I need to do to help our team get a win."

#24, G, So. Aysia Evans

On the winning effort …
"We played really well. Like Coach (Gerlich) said, Oral Roberts was a really good basketball team and the good thing about that win is I feel like we haven't reached our full potential but I feel like our chemistry was great and we still have aways to go."

On the UTA defense …
"We played hard on defense. Our defensive effort is what really won the ballgame because we frustrated them a lot. That is where we got most of our momentum, getting turnovers and playing defense."

On Crystal Allen's hot shooting and its impact on the club …
"Yes. Crystal hitting shots fed over to everybody else making shots."
