Dec. 7, 2017 Recap | Final Stats | Notes
UT Arlington 58 at Northern Iowa 62
Thursday, December 7, 2017 - Cedar Falls, Iowa
POSTGAME QUOTES
UTA Head Coach Scott Cross
"I think the game was lost with about seven minutes to go. We had a seven point lead, came out of a timeout and missed our assignments to give them a wide open shot. They knocked it down. We came down and take a bad shot. They came back and made another one. There was a stretch of about seven possessions where they scored on us. Our intensity dropped defensively. I thought that was the difference in the game. We could have executed better late in the game.
"I was proud of the guys, though. I saw some signs defensively that were positive. It made us feel good that this team is going to be able to defend and do some great things as we move forward. This was a great game. This was a game that prepares you to win a conference championship.
"Northern Iowa is a good of a defensive team as I have ever played against. We got absolutely nothing on our ball screens. Credit goes to them for how tough and physical they are. They are very good at executing defensively. It was a great opportunity for our guys. To have a seven point lead with seven points to go is a testament to our guys. We had them rattled with our full court pressure. Our guys off the ball were better defensively today. All-in-all there were a lot of positives. We didn't come out with the win we wanted. But, hopefully we will bounce back Saturday (against FGCU) and get headed in the right direction.
"(Carlson) made some big shots. A lot of them were with a hand in his face. He had 23 against UNLV and he followed that with another career game tonight. He is in a zone right now and is playing his best basketball. There was not a whole lot we could do. He hit some tough shots. You have to give him credit for doing that."
