Postgame Notes

  • UTA improved to 16-6 overall and 9-3 in the Sun Belt with Saturday's victory. Arkansas State went to 5-10 and 3-10 in league play. The win was UTA's first over Arkansas State since 1987, ending a 10-game losing streak to the Redwolves that dated back to when the teams were members of the Southland Conference.
  • UTA outscored Arkansas State 22-10 in the fourth quarter to overcome what was a one-point ASU advantage going into the final 10 minutes. ASU led by as much as nine during the first quarter, outscoring UTA 22-13 in the period. UTA outscored the Redwolves 56-36 over the final 30 minutes of the game.
  • Rebekah VanDijk posted a game-high 21 points on 9-13 shooting. VanDijk has scored in double figures in 21 of the 22 games played this season.
  • UTA featured two others in double figures with Crystal Allen following up a 16-point effort on Thursday with 13 points against ASU. Allen was 3-of-5 from 3-point land to lead all players. Aysia Evans had 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
  • UTA outscored ASU 40-24 in the paint, while using a 20-14 turnover advantage into a 15-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The Lady Mavericks bested the league leaders in 3-pointers made, hitting 4-of-12 for 33.3 percent, while ASU hit just three of its 18 attempts (16.7 percent).
  • The contest was tied eight times, while there was five lead changes.
  • The Lady Mavericks hit the road for their only meetings with the Georgia teams. UTA takes on Georgia Southern on Thursday in Statesboro, Ga.
