ARLINGTON, Texas - Ending a 12-day break, UTA women's tennis swept matches against Oral Roberts and Prairie View A&M on Friday at the UTA Tennis Center
The Mavericks (4-3) took all 11 points on the day as it played out each match against ORU in singles and then left matches unfinished in the 4-0 sweep of Prairie View A&M.
"We played well today in getting two wins after being off for so long," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "We were able to get the results we needed a pick up a little bit of momentum ahead of playing Iowa on Sunday."
The tandem of Astrid Gehre and Anna Wichert were victorious in both of their doubles matches, playing at the No. 2 position. They downed ORU 6-0 to start the day and then 6-1 vs. PVA&M in the finale. Wichert also picked up UTA points in singles at the No. 5 spot, winning 6-3, 6-3 to start the day against the Eagles and then 6-2, 6-1 in Match 2.
Carla Cerdan Vives was impressive at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Oral Roberts and then swept both sets to close her day.
UTA will enjoy a day off on Saturday before the host Big 10 opponent Iowa on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center. It is the second match against a team from the Power 5 conference this season after Michigan State ended UTA's home winning streak earlier in the year during the home opener.
