Postgame Notes

UTA Head Coach Darin Thomas

Opening statement …
"I was proud of our effort. We are a little taxed on the mound. That was our fifth game in five days and I didn't know what we would have. They guys did a good job and we were just a play or two there away. But give them credit. That was a big hit by Skoug, the home run, but give us credit, we bounced right back loaded them up and had a play at the plate. You never know if that ball gets by and he's safe there and another guys gets a hit. But that is baseball. That is a good club. You don't get many good opportunities and when you do you have to take advantage of them. They have some really, really good arms in the pen and that makes it tough on you. We had some really competitive at-bats and every pitcher we brought in did a good job in certain situations. We probably went a little too long with Jordon (West) - he threw a couple of times this weekend. We were right there at the end and that is all you can ask for against a really good club."

On the record-breaking crowd …
"Really good atmosphere. That is a great home opener and a really good atmosphere. It has to be one of the best since I've been here, no doubt about that. We played alright."

On the team battling injuries …
"We are going to be just fine. We've got a couple of guys that are injured and we are just trying to keep our heads above water until we get them back. One arm on the mound and one at the plate. Against some really good arms - some of the best we are going to see all year - I thought we had some really competitive at-bats. I like what I saw on the mound for us, for a team playing its fifth game in five days.

On the loss ..
"The energy was where it needed to be. Any time you lose it hurts a little bit. But like coach just told us, a couple of things here and there - work on some things and iron out a few details - we are going to be alright. We are going to have to learn from it, have two really good practice days, and get ready for the weekend."

On the crowd …
"It was awesome. Anytime you can have the stands packed it adds a little bit of energy for the game. It was nice hearing them. Obviously TCU being close, they brought a good amount of fans. It is always fun when you can fill the stands."
