Postgame Quotes

UTA coach Krista Gerlich
Opening statement…
"There is never a time that we are going to be unhappy with a win. Wins are hard to come by in this league and we are really excited to get two on our home court this week. I am really proud of the girls for stepping up and doing that. I thought that we went through some runs of looking really confident, moving the ball and following the game plan. We definitely had some lackadaisical moments where we let Monroe back in. I thought Monroe did a good job of fighting back and staying in the game. Cortez is a great player and I thought we held her in check for a long time but let her get loose in the fourth quarter. Overall we are excited to be 2-0 this week and getting some wins under our belt. I thought we had some really big plays by Rebekah VanDijk and some big shots by Crystal."

On the team grinding out the win...
"I think we've had to fight. When we went to Arkansas those two games that we dropped, we had to fight. Tonight against Monroe it wasn't easy but I think our girls are figuring out that they have to show up and battle every single night in the Sun Belt. You can't take anybody lightly, you cant take anybody for granted and you have to follow game plan. Whenever we can take care of the basketball and rebound the basketball on the same night, I look for us to be a really good basketball team and tough to beat."

Senior center Rebekah VanDijk
On a big start in the second half...
"I think I just had to work a little bit harder, in the second quarter I noticed I was a bit stagnant and their were two people on me quite a bit. I just had to come out and be more physical. The guards looked inside and gave me the ball, so a lot of credit to them."
