Postgame Quotes

UTA coach Krista Gerlich
Opening statement...
"What a huge win for us today and I am really proud of our girls and the effort we put forth tonight. I have so much respect for Troy and they have won our conference the last two years so that is a really big game for us. The way our conference schedule has fallen, that is the only time we will play them this year so we really talked about taking advantage of opportunities and we really did that."

On the play of VanDijk...
"She played like a senior and played like she knew she was one of the best posts in the conference. Our kids did a great job of getting her the ball and she stayed out of foul trouble and the cast played really well."

On being able to out-rebound Troy...
"It was a huge goal for us. We had two goals coming into tonight, one to be even with them in turnovers and even in rebounding, so it was huge for us to have more rebounds than them. Our kids did a really good job. That is what we have been missing. In those first 12 games we played, we have just missing the toughness and they showed that toughness today."

UTA senior center Rebekah VanDijk
On moving into second in career blocks...
"It's just something I can do on defense. If their guards get past our guards, I back up to help. Even in the post, my goal is to not let my girl score on me. If I have to block her shot, that's what I've got to do."

On what she took from the SBC Semifinal loss to troy into tonight...
"I think each and every one of us had a goal, how many rebounds we wanted to have and how many rebounds you didn't want your girl to have. We did tons of rebounding drills. It was just focus n rebounding the ball on the defense end and getting offensive rebounds, and then not turning over the ball."
