Game Quotes

UTA coach Krista Gerlich
Opening statement…
"What a great ballgame. Great win for our program and our girls. I'm really proud of the fight we showed just on defense. I thought this was one of our best defensive efforts of the year. I was very concerned with it going into the game, just because how many weapons Texas State has. Our kids just really locked down. We had a goal to keep them under 60 points, and the fact that we did that with an extra overtime period is even better. I can't say enough about Lauren Billie, Shelby Richards, and Miranda LeJune's performance.

We just kinda expect it out of Rebekah VanDijk, but she had a great performance as well. We had a lot of kids step up, and we had some that were off their game tonight but others stepped up for them and that's what great teams do."

On the team's defense against Texas State's 3-point shot...
"We certainly keyed on that, and we knew what we were getting ourselves into with trying to defend them. We had a couple of Plan B's in store if we couldn't defend them but we never had to go to that. I thought our guards did a really great job of focusing on the game plan and how we wanted to defend Texas State. Miranda and Lauren in particular were really good. Really proud of that and I thought our 3-point defense was the key today. I thought we did a good job of controlling the paint, but our perimeter defense was outstanding."

UTA senior Rebekah VanDijk
On defeating her rival...
"It's always great playing against our rivals. It's always a competitive game, it's always head-to-head with them. So just to be able to have a big game is huge, as you always want to be good against your rival."

On Miranda's big game...
"She was huge, she was great today. Like coach said, she was really good on the defensive and offensive side of the ball. She was huge in shutting down Leavitt from Texas State, which was a big goal of ours so I'm just so excited for her."
