JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UT Arlington fell for the first time in its trip to Florida with North Florida helping the Mavericks scoreless in a 3-0 final at Atlantic Coast High School Field.
Having won the first three in Jacksonville, UTA went to 6-3 overall. North Florida was the first team to put up more than a run on the UTA pitching staff in the trip.
UTA's lineup scattered five hits against the Ospreys (6-4). The Mavs finish play in Florida on Sunday when they take on Jacksonville U.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The teams went scoreless through the first two frames with each team leaving a runner on base. North Florida got on the board in the third with four hits helped along by an error. The Ospreys could've sparked more offense, but a double play ended the threat.
A lead off single into center got things going for UNF once again in the fourth with a two out hit to bring in a run.
Two more hits in the fifth gave North Florida insurance as UTA couldn't mount a comeback in this trip.
Randi Phillips was knocked with the loss after allowing two earned on seven hits in 4.0 innings pitched. JoJo Valencia entered in the fifth and gave up one run on three hits.
