MONROE, La. UT Arlington completed the weekend sweep of the Sun Belt pod in Monroe by sweeping Arkansas State 4-0 on Saturday.
Building off the comeback win from Friday against pod host ULM, UTA took all four points against the Redwolves to improved to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in league play.
"I was really happy with our effort today and focus," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "We played a really strong match against a good opponent in Arkansas State. We left it very close against the Warhawks yesterday, and were able to come out swinging it really well today.
UTA made quick work of the doubles point with wins by Momoka Horiguchi and Lucia Natal at No. 2 (6-1) and a sweep at No. 3 from Almudena Boza and Carla Cerdan Vives (6-0). UTA left No. 1 unfinished with a 5-1 lead.
The momentum went into singles with UTA running through the final three points. Anna Wichert swept the opening set and claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win, while Lucia Natal topped her opponent at No. 5 6-1, 6-3. UTA needed three sets from Boza to complete things, but her 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory clinched the match.
