AUSTIN, Texas - UTA's Alexus Henry stands in fourth place among 25 entrants in the heptathlon after a strong showing on day one at the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The junior has scored 3,351 points through the first four events. She is just seven points out of third place and 108 clear of fifth.
Henry's top performance came in her signature event, the high jump, as she cleared two more bars than her closest competitor. Her clearance of 5-11 ¼ (1.81m) was good for 991 points. As a result, she leaped from 17th place after one event into the third position.
In addition, she scored 905 points in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.53, secured 814 points in the 200m with a clocking of 25.81 and nabbed 641 points in the shot put after a throw of 11.70m.
The final three events will be contested Thursday morning beginning at 11 a.m. with the long jump. The javelin throw and 800 meters will close out the competition.
Henry's personal best in the heptathlon is 5,199 points, a mark achieved set last year. Sara Massey holds the school record (5,444), which was set in 1991.
Other Mavericks in action tomorrow at the Texas Relays will be Garrett Moore (men's 400m hurdles), Erik Martinsson (men's 800m invitational), Astrid Rosvall (women's 1500m), Joel Duren (men's 1500m), Justin Domangue (men's 3000m steeplechase and men's 5000m), Tori Shelton (women's 5000m) and Brady Steele (men's 5000m).
