ARLINGTON, Texas - In a day that celebrated senior Agustina Serio and her career as a Maverick, UT Arlington swept in-state rival UTSA 4-0 on Thursday at the UTA Tennis Center.
Serio concluded her career at home by leaving a pair of matches unfinished, leading in both in singles and doubles to end the day. The Mavs improved to 11-7 overall with just one match on the regular-season slate remaining, Saturday at North Texas.
"I am really happy with what we accomplished today," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "We took care of the matches we needed to win, and let Agustina go out on a positive note at home. She has meant so much for our program and has been the standard for what it is to be a part of Maverick tennis this season. She will go down in the history books as one of the all-time greats."
Double actioned swayed back and forth, with wind conditions not at a premium for play. Momoka Horiguchi and Nanaka Takeuchi were able to catch an early break of serve against the wind and ran away with a 6-2 win at No. 2. Almudena Boza and Carla Cerdan Vives claimed the doubles point at No. 3 with a final of 6-4.
Boza took the doubles momentum into her head-to-head at No. 4, doubling the UTA lead with a 6-1, 6-4 finish. Cerdan Vives followed her doubles partner's lead, winning 6-1, 6-4. The Mavs clinched the victory at No. 3 as Horiguchi closed out a 6-0, 6-4 win.
