SAN MARCOS, Texas - A strong showing from the middle of the UT Arlington lineup helped women's tennis sweep a pair of matches in Sun Belt play hosted by Texas State.

The Mavs opened the weekend with a quality showing against Louisiana in a 4-1 win, while Sunday's finale against Texas State saw UTA race to a 4-0 win. The Mavs improved to 9-7 on the season with the wins.

"I am very happy in how we played this weekend against a pair of Sun Belt teams we may see in the conference tournament," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "We are 5-1 against our conference foes and playing some really good tennis at the point of the season where you need to be playing your best. I am happy with where we are and am excited to see how we close the season."

The Mavericks picked up the doubles point in both matches, but had to battle it out against the in-state rival Bobcats. With Agustina Serio and Anna Wichert claiming a 5-4 win as their opponent retired, it came down to tiebreaks in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Texas State picked up a 9-7 win in the tiebreak on No. 2, while Almudena Boza and Carla Cerdan Vives were on the right side of their match, winning the tiebreak 7-4 to claim the opening point.

In singles, Momoka Horiguchi swung a hot racquet as she swept her weekend matces. Horiguchi won at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Louisiana and a 6-3, 6-0 victory against the Bobcats.

Almudena Boza matched her teammate with 6-3, 6-0 wins in both days, while Lucia Natal clinched both matches, taking a tiebreak on Saturday and a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5 on Sunday.
