
Aaron Funk Earns All-Star Accolades

UTA Outfielder Honored in Expedition League
ARLINGTON, Texas – UTA junior outfielder Aaron Funk has been named an all-star in the Expedition League.
Funk, a native of Mansfield, Texas, has had a strong 23-game summer for the Spearfish Sasquatch (South Dakota) in the Expedition League. Funk, a six-foot, 190-pound left-handed hitter, has batted .377 (29-for-77) with 17 runs, three doubles, three homers and 13 RBI, stealing five bases. Funk is hitting .487 (19-for-39) over his last 10 games.
In his UTA career, Funk has played in 115 games with 61 starts, batting .246 with six doubles, three triples, two homers and 27 RBI.
The all-star game takes place on Monday night in Hastings, Neb., at 6 p.m. CT.
GROSS STARRING IN NORTHWOODS LEAGUE
UTA right-hander Andrew Gross is off to a strong start in the Northwoods League with the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
Gross, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound junior, has a 2.79 ERA in 13 games this summer, earning three saves and fanning 24 in 19.1 innings. Gross worked in 22 games in 2018 for the Mavs, posting a 2-0 record and a 3.98 ERA with a save in 31.2 innings.
Gross is joined in the Northwoods League by junior lefty Drew Gooch, who is 1-1 with a 3.17 ERA in five games and three starts for Thunder Bay.
