MALIBU, Calif. - A positive start from No. 56 Guanarteme Nuez saw him win his opening match of the 2018 Oracle ITA Master's over Felipe Sarrasague from Elon University. Nuez will play No. 81 Laurens Verboven on Friday in the Round of 16. 

"This was a solid match for Teme," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "It is the first competition of the year for him and it looked very precise with his shots."

Nuez took control early on in the match as his pair of aces, combined with an 83-percent clip in first serve points won, helped him towards a quick 6-1 first-set win. 

The second set played much closer, but being able to take two break points in the set helped the senior capture the win. 

Nuez played a mixed doubles match earlier in the day with a women's player from Vanderbilt. The pair took the match 6-0 to get the day started. 

Verboven, seeded No. 8 in the draw, won his match 6-2, 6-3 over Belmont's Hendrik Inno. The winner of the match will play their quarterfinal match also on Friday.
