ARLINGTON – UT Arlington concludes a brief two-game homestand on Saturday with a matchup against Coastal Carolina. Tipping off at 2 p.m. on ESPN+, UTA is looking to push its winning streak to three games.
The Lady Mavericks improved their overall record to 10-4 with a double-overtime thriller on Thursday night against Appalachian State. The win propelled UTA's SBC record to 2-1. Senior
Cierra Johnson lifted the Lady Mavs with a career-high 29 points, while
Katie Ferrell grabbed the team's first double-double of the season, and the first of her young career, with 21 points and 17 rebounds. The 17 rebounds were the second most for a player under coach
Krista Gerlich at UTA and most since
Rebekah VanDijk last January. Coastal Carolina is winless in three close games in league play and enter 8-6 overall.
Winning the team's sixth consecutive overtime win and second of the season, two others were in double figures with
Lauren Billie scoring 15 and
Claire Chastain returned with 10. The 99 points scored tied for the sixth most scored in a Lady Maverick game, matching the season-high set in the season opener against Jackson State.
UTA is 3-1 all-time against the Chanticleers, splitting games last season with each taking the win on the home court. The Lady Mavs survived a comeback bid at CPC in winning 65-63. In the road contest, it was CCU that caught fire in the fourth to take a double-digit win.
