Lady Mavs Handle Georgia Southern, 81-48, On Kids Day

ARLINGTON, Texas – Redshirt Junior Brooke Alexander scored a team-high 17 points as the UTA women's basketball team cruised to an 81-48 win over Georgia Southern Thursday afternoon on Kids Day at College Park Center.

The Lady Mavs shot 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the floor, 55 percent (11-of-20) from long distance and went 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) from the charity stripe, while the Eagles hit just 16-of-59 (27.1 percent) shots from the field and 6-of-28 (21.4 percent) attempts from behind the arc.

With the win, UTA improves to 13-5 overall (5-2 SBC), while Georgia Southern falls to 5-13 on the season and 0-7 in conference play.

Alexander went 6-of-10 from the field and knocked down a career-high five triples, en route to her team-high 17 points. The Frisco, Texas native also added five assists, two steals and a pair of boards in 19 minutes. Cierra Johnson chipped in with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Terryn Milton added 11 points and four dimes, while Aysia Evans finished with eight points. Kelsey Johnson and Michaela Wright recorded seven points and six points, respectively, off the bench.

With 6,186 fans, including over 5,500 students, in attendance, UTA fed off the energy of the energetic crowd and opened the game with a 14-0 run, making five of their first six shots from the field, including three-pointers from Alexander and C. Johnson. The Lady Mavs went on to close out the opening quarter with a 25-7 lead and would go on to hold a double digit advantage for the remaining of the contest.

The Lady Mavs return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 26 when they host Georgia State at College Park Center. Tip-off for the contest, which will also be Salute To Service Day, is set for 2 p.m. UTA Athletics will honor all military and first responders, who can secure two free tickets (and additional discounted tickets) to the game by contacting the UTATickets Box Office at (817) 272-9595.
