Box Score DALLAS, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team spent the weekend at the SMU Red and Blue Challenge that consisted of a series of dual matches against SMU, Central Arkansas, Abilene Christian and Northwestern State. The weekend was highlighted with a singles match win over host SMU to end the weekend.
The Mavericks opened the Red and Blue Challenge on Friday with a doubles match against SMU.
Lucia Natal and
Momoka Horiguchi took the No. 2 doubles match over SMU's team of Nicole Petchey and Claudia Bortolome, 7-6. The Mustangs took the other two points over the Mavericks to take the doubles match 2-1.
The Mavericks ended Saturday with singles competition against Northwestern State, defeating the Lady Demons 4-2.
Momoka Horiguchi (6-3, 4-6, 10-6),
Liz Chileno (6-4, 6-1),
Carla Pons (6-4, 7-5) and
Polina Akimova (6-3, 6-4) each finished came away with victories in their singles competition to help the Mavs clinch the win.
UTA finished the weekend with singles competition against SMU, picking up a quality win over the Mustangs 3-2. In the No. 1 singles slot, Garcia Mendez took down Claudia Bortolome 7-5, 2-6, 11-9.
Liz Chileno and
Momoka Horiguchi wrapped up the win for the Mavericks taking their opponents down in straight sets. Chileno won 6-3, 6-2 over Isabella Tcherkes, while Horiguchi won 7-5, 6-0 over Katherine Jakeway.
