HAMPTON, Ga. – The UTA men's cross country team placed fourth among 10 teams and the women's team grabbed fifth place out of 12 schools at the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Nash Farm Battlefield Park.

The Mavericks totaled 90 points on the men's side and were just eight points out of second place. The top three in the standings were Appalachian State (48), Arkansas State (82) and Coastal Carolina (83).

Justin Domangue placed third on the 8k circuit with a time of 24:13.1. It was his third straight season with a top-5 finish at the meet. Domangue finished his SBC cross country career as a four-time all-conference performer, grabbing first-team accolades three times.

Two freshmen were next across the line for the Mavericks.
Marquentin Barnes finished 16th, falling shy of all-conference honors by just one position. He crossed in 25:25.2.
Jack Myers placed 20th with a clocking of 25:31.9.

The Mavs other two point scorers were
Cole Klashinsky (22nd, 25:34.7) and
Connor Butterfield (29th, 26:01.6).

The women's team had a total of 126 points to finish behind Arkansas State (57), South Alabama (65), Appalachian State (78) and Texas State (112). The Mavericks improved five spots in the standings from their 2018 season.

Individually, freshman
Bailey Villalon led the Mavericks with a 16th-place showing in the 5k race (18:12.2). She was the second-highest finishing freshman at the meet, and was just one spot out of grabbing all-conference honors.

Newcomer
Ieshia Dickerson also landed in the top 20, as she finished 19th with a time of 18:16.8.
Madeleine Rowe (22nd, 18:25.3) and
Sofia Santamaria (31st, 18:53.3) also broke the 19-minute mark.
Shayla Huebner (38th, 19:07.2) was the final point scorer.

Both UTA teams will compete in the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday, Nov. 15.
