ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington cross country teams are primed and ready to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships that are set for Friday, Oct. 31 from Harold Patterson Sports Complex.

For the first time since 1992, UTA will host its conference championship and their first time ever doing so in the WAC.

Harold Patterson Sports Complex serves as no stranger to the Mavericks as their fall opener – the Gerald Richey Invitational - back in September took place there where the men's squad took home the top team spot.

Heading into Friday, the UTA women were picked third in the WAC Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll that came out this past Monday. The women's team captured their best finish back at the Gerald Richey, coming in third place.

This season, the Mavericks have been led by freshman
Dorcas Jepkosgei who finished the regular season with a pair of second place finishes and one first place finish in her first year in the orange and blue.

The Kenyan native opened the 2025 season with a bang, capturing a 16:43.5 time in the women's 5k at UTA's first meet of the season. There, Junior
Matro Jepkemboi also posted a strong finish of fourth place with a time of 17:19.5.

Jepkosgei and Jepkemboi saw their best finishes at the well-known Texas A&M Invitational back on Sept. 13 where the pair came away with first and second place outings. Jepkosgei's tremendous winning time of 16:46.0 in the women's 5k marked a new course record for the Aggies' event as Jepkemboi captured a solid time of 17:00.5 - fourth all time - which went on to earn second-place honors.

The women's team came in at no. 15 in the NCAA DI Women's Cross Country South Central Regional Preseason Poll and have remained ranked for four consecutive weeks in the regular season

On the men's side, transfer
Toby Eaton has been the Mavs' top performer with one top five finish under his belt which came from the Gerald Richey Invitational. There, Eaton secured a time of 15:07.1 in the men's 5k, guiding the team to a first place finish.
