HUBMLE, Texas – The UT Arlington men's golf team tees off its 2019 spring season Sunday when the Mavericks head to the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston to go up against one of strongest fields they'll face all year.
Â
Co-hosted by Houston and Rice, the All-American Intercollegiate features 14 schools – all of which are ranked inside the top 155 of the nation; six of those reside in the top 100 and three are in the top 50.
Â
The 54-hole tournament will be contested with one round each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Each round is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. with tee times off the 1st and 10th holes. Live scoring will be available all tournament long via Golfstat by clicking here. Additionally, updates will be posted on the official Twitter account of the program @UTAMavsGolf.
Â
The Mavs' five-man lineup will feature the following quintet on the par-72, 7096-yard layout which has played host to the PGA Tour's Houston Open since 2003:
Â
1) Paul Gonzalez
2) Tanner Gore
3) Kyle Cox
4) Camilo Avila
5) Caleb Hicks
Â
UTA will be paired with Lamar and fellow Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana in the opening round Sunday, going off the 1st tee in nine-minute increments beginning with Hicks at 8:45 a.m.
Â
It will be the first tournament for the Mavs in more than 3-and-a-half months as UTA last teed it up in Southwest Florida in late October, finishing in a season-best 2nd place at FGCU's event.
Â
INSIDE THE UTA LINEUP
Sophomore Gonzalez leads the UTA lineup with a stroke average of 73.46. He has posted a team-high-tying four par-or-better rounds in just 13 opportunities this year, and has a team-low round of 68.
Â
Freshman Cox carries a scoring average of 75.71 and a trio of par-or-better performances as he competed in all five of UTA's tournaments – just as Gonzalez, Gore and Hicks did as well.
Â
Gore has a 76.36 average, but matched Gonzalez with the quartet of par-or-better rounds in the fall, including a season-best 69. The senior ranks 11th in program history with 30 par-or-better rounds, is 8th with 278 birdies and 6th with nine eagles.
Â
Freshman Hicks posted a 76.57 average in the fall, with a low round of 71. Avila, meanwhile, will compete for the first time since the season-opening Lone Star Invitational Sept. 10-11.
