Box Score ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington women's tennis team posted another shutout victory – this time a 4-0 decision Sunday over UTRGV – to extend its impressive spring-season start with what's now an 8-1 record.
 
Carla Pons and Liz Chileno each went a perfect 2-0 on the day with Pons picking up a singles win out of the #2 position over Michelle Walker, 6-1, 6-0, and Chileno securing a victory at the #5 slot over Nethmi Waduge, 6-4, 6-1.
 
In doubles action, Pons teamed with Momoka Horiguchi to knock off Walker and Doris Aleksovska on court #2, 6-1, while Chileno partnered with Carla Vives to pick up a 7-6 triumph at the #3 position over Katarina Sasaroga and Sandra Putz.
 
The Mavericks used those two doubles wins to secure the point, and then Pons and Chileno added two of the three singles decisions needed to earn the win. The other came from the #3 position as Lucia Natal dropped just one game en route to a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Marine Darzyan.
 
Sunday concluded a season-opening nine-match homestand for UTA, which will next return to action Saturday, Feb. 23, at Rice for an 11 a.m. start.
