ARLINGTON, Texas – A four-run explosion in the fifth inning, highlighted by a
Dylan Paul RBI triple, helped push the UTA baseball team's winning streak to three games as the Mavs picked up a well-earned 10-2 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their 2019 home opener on Wednesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
With the win, the Mavericks improved to 3-2 on the season and secured the program's first home opening victory since the 2016 season.
David Renning led the way for the Mavs, finishing the evening 2-for-3 at the plate, with a double and three RBIs.
Josh Minjarez went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Paul finished 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a couple of runs scored.
Zac Cook went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases.
Connor Aube showed off his speed on the basepaths as he swiped three bags in the win.
Ka'ikepono Anderson tossed 5.0 innings and registered five Ks to pick up his first win of the season. He also gave up a pair of earned runs on just two hits.
The Mavs will return to the field this weekend when they host the UTA Classic (Feb. 22-24). UTA will play four games during the Classic, including a pair against Stephen F. Austin (Feb. 22 and Feb. 24) and two versus Wichita State (Feb. 23 and Feb. 24).
