ARLINGTON, Texas -
Whitney Walton extended her hitting streak to 13 games and
Shelbi Court hit her first career home run, but it wasn't enough to lift the Mavericks past Houston Baptist as the Huskies defeating UT Arlington 6-5 Wednesday evening at Allan Saxe Field.
UTA finished with 11 hits on the day, but stranded eight runners on the bags.
Laura Curry,
Shelbi Court,
Reagan Wright and
Aileen Garcia each finished with two hits on the day.
JoJo Valencia started in the circle, but was replaced by
Randi Phillips (7-7) in the second inning.
Allie Gardiner finished the game, tossing two complete innings without allowing a hit.
The game started off on the wrong foot for UTA (14-13), with HBU connecting on a two-run home run to start the game and take an immediate 2-0 lead.
Reagan Wright put the Mavs back within one in the bottom of the first when she hit a two-out single up the middle to score
Laura Curry.
UTA took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second.
Melanie Mendoza reached on a fielders choice to score the first run, before Curry singled up the gut of the defense to score
Kayci Moore.
After securing the first two outs in the fifth inning, it quickly unraveled for the Mavericks as the Huskies scored four two-out runs coming off four straight hits. With the explosive inning by HBU, the Mavs trailed 6-3.
The Mavs halted the momentum, and appeared to gain some of their own, when Court blasted a two-run shot to left center to bring the game to 6-5. An inning later, Walton extended her hitting streak, reaching base to be the game-tying run, but was unable to advance past second.
