ARLINGTON, Texas — After a week break, the UT Arlington women's tennis team will return to action with matches on Saturday and Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center. The home matches mark the end of a road stretch that lasted over a month, with their last home match coming on February 17.
The Mavs will open up the weekend against UL Monroe on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. before hosting Louisiana on Sunday, March 24 at 10 a.m.
After starting the season 9-2, the Mavs have hit a bit of a slump, losing their last three matches, including their first two Sun Belt matches. UTA is coming off a 4-3 loss at Troy, a day after losing at South Alabama 2-4. The Mavs will look bounce back and capture their first SBC matches of the season.
UTA NOTES
• Freshman
Liz Chileno has won seven of her first eight collegiate matches, all coming in straight sets. She is currently 3-0 in the No. 6 singles slot.
• The doubles team of
Momoka Horiguchi and
Carla Pons is a perfect 8-0 on the year in the No. 2 slot. On the season, they are 9-3, dropping three matches in the No. 1 slot.
• A trio of Mavericks are tied for the most dual wins this season.
Lucia Natal,
Carla Pons and
Nanaka Takeuchi all have nine wins in the singles play this spring.
SCOUTING ULM
The Warhawks hold a 7-1 overall record entering Saturday's matchup, with their most recent outing resulting in a 4-3 win over Georgia State on March 17. ULM is led by Shivani Manjanna who sports a 5-1 overall record.
SCOUTING LOUISIANA
Louisiana is 6-7 overall, but has a chance to increase their win total with a match against Texas State on Saturday before matching up with the Mavs on Sunday. The Ragin' Cajuns are currently 1-1 in the Sun Belt, defeating Georgia State 5-2, but falling to Georgia Southern 4-3. Floriane Picaut owns the best record on the squad at 9-4 on the season, primarily setting up in the No. 1 singles slot.
ON DECK
The Mavs will have another six days in between matches after this weekend, having to wait until March 30 and 31 to travel to Georgia and take on Georgia Southern (Saturday, March 30) and Georgia State (Sunday, March 31).
