UTA Wins 13 Events At Bobby Lane Invitational

Seniors account for five wins in their final home meet

ARLINGTON, Texas – UTA racked up 13 event titles at the 39th Annual Bobby Lane Invitational, including five individual victories by Maverick seniors. Despite the predicted threat of stormy weather, the meet went off without any delays, although it was blustery throughout much of the afternoon at UTA's Maverick Stadium.

Seven individual titles came on the women's side, while the men accounted for four. Both relay teams also picked up wins in the 4x100 meters.

Madeleine Rowe led the way for the Mavericks, as she was one of just two multi-event winners at the meet. She pulled off a double with a win in the 800 meters (2:17.16) after previously crossing first in the 1500m (4:38.76).

In the sprints, a pair of newcomers came out with first-place finishes. Trishawna Crawford won the 100 meters with a time of 12.02, while Vanessa Ugorji claimed the 400m in 56.58.

The Mavericks also performed well in field events. Senior Alexus Henry shined in her final competition in Maverick Stadium, winning the women's high jump with a mark of 5-10 ½ (1.79 meters).

In addition, Abigail Kelly-Salo won the pole vault with a clearance of 12-3 ½ (3.75m), while Alexus Washington won the hammer throw on Friday with a toss of 169-5 (51.63m).

Among the men's champions were a pair of senior sprinters. Deontre Haynes netted a fast early-season time of 10.38 to win the 100 meters. In addition, Brenden Wallace was victorious in the 400 meters with an equally-impressive March clocking of 47.50.

The other men's wins also came courtesy of members of the decorated senior class. Isaiah McBride was the winner in the long jump with a best effort of 23-3 ½ (7.10m), while Victor Fincher cruised to first place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.52.

The men's and women's teams swept the 4x100m races. For the women, Crawford, Juleen Lewis, Tatyana Terrell and Tyriete Dixon crossed with a time of 46.16. Haynes, McBride, D'Undre Mitchell and Demarviae Gray had a winning time of 40.67.

UTA's top athletes will next be in action in Austin at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Wednesday through Saturday.
